HELP & FREQUENT QUESTIONS
A little clarity.
Before your first replay.
The practical details that help you choose a backend and set the right expectations.
Do I need to change my Qt application?
No source-code changes or linking are required. Launch the application with the TestHand generic probe plugin. Some deployed apps need preload or plugin-path settings; the desktop backend is an alternative for supported external access.
What is the difference between the two backends?
The Qt probe runs inside a Qt application and exposes widgets, QML items, properties and selectors. The desktop backend works from outside through operating-system accessibility, keyboard and mouse input, and screen capture. Their targeting and platform capabilities differ.
Can an AI agent use TestHand?
Yes. The MCP server exposes tools for launching, inspecting, clicking, typing, waiting and taking screenshots. Python and command-line interfaces are also available. An agent still needs a correctly configured local application and backend.
Does it work with every desktop application?
No universal compatibility is promised. The probe is for supported Qt applications. External access depends on the platform and the application’s accessibility support. Signed or hardened apps can need the external backend.
Will I need operating-system permissions?
External desktop automation may need Accessibility and Screen Recording permissions, especially on macOS. Supported offscreen Qt testing does not move your real pointer. Visible desktop automation can interact with your actual desktop.
Does TestHand run in the cloud?
The documented toolkit connects locally through a restricted local socket or a Windows named pipe. This website does not offer hosted test execution.
Can I edit a recorded test?
Yes. Recorded .testhand files are plain text. Edit selectors, values and waits, then replay from the command line or inspect the sequence in the visual player. Qt recording and desktop-backend capabilities are not interchangeable.
Are these actual TestHand screenshots?
No. Website visuals are illustrative HTML interfaces. The replay is a browser simulation, not a live TestHand test or a captured native application.
Where is the installer or pricing?
The product source supplied for this website documents building from source. No public installer, release URL, commercial price or customer support channel was verified, so none is invented here.
